Born on November 12, 1969 in St Petersburg (then Leningrad), he graduated from St. Petersburg University, Department of Classics in 1993, and since then is active as a lecturer at this University. PhD in 1998 („Literary Criticism in Persius“), Habilitation in 2010 (Aristotle’s Catharsis Doctrine: Its Sources and Its Reception“). In 2005–2006 worked in Athens on the project “Ancient Greek Geography” (fellow of Alexander F. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, Cathegory A II). In 2007 worked as a research fellow at the University of Wien. In 2008–2009, 2011 (Alexander von Humboldt fellowship) and 2013–2017 (DFG research fellowship) did research on the ancient poetics at the University of Trier.

Published several translations of Greek and Latin authors, a monograph and a textbook, as well as a number of papers on Classical Philology (mainly in German). Research fields – ancient poetics, geography of the ancient world and history of philology.
